ESTsecurity, the security subsidiary of ESTsoft (CEO Chung Sang-won), announced on the 3rd that it won the Grand Prize at the '20th K-ICT Information Security Awards' on the 2nd, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and administered by the Korea Information Security Industry Association and the Korea Internet & Security Agency.

Scoring highly among the participating companies, ESTsecurity won the Grand Prize — the Minister of Science and ICT's Award — in recognition of its efforts as a leading security company to improve public information security awareness and encourage its practice.

ESTsecurity, the first to open up its license so that anyone could use its antivirus software free of charge, has led the way in strengthening information security awareness in Korea and invigorating the security industry through security technology innovation and rapid information sharing on threats of all kinds.

Its flagship security solution 'ALYac' in particular is credited with bringing antivirus use into the Korean mainstream. ALYac now has more than 10 million users. Using ALYac, ESTsecurity detects more than 100 million pieces of malware a year and blocks more than 1.3 million ransomware attacks per quarter.

It has recently been actively applying deep learning technology developed independently at its AI research center, 'AI PLUS Lab', to its security solutions. Prime examples are its next-generation security solution 'ALYac EDR' and its malware threat response solution 'Threat Inside'. ALYac EDR detects and blocks threats in advance, and Threat Inside analyzes the data it generates.

Alongside this it continues to work with major Korean institutions such as the National Police Agency and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) to rapidly provide general users, companies and institutions with trend information and analysis reports on the latest threats. It publishes these reports using the malware collection and analysis technology and threat intelligence data it has accumulated over the past ten years.

It also runs a nationwide security awareness survey campaign every Information Security Month and collaborates continuously with information security education bodies, steadily pursuing efforts to improve information security awareness and develop security specialists.

Its internal information security activities have also been continuously improved. To effectively contain the risk that grows in proportion to work productivity, ESTsecurity separated security environments according to the nature of the work and developed and applied new security technology — moving away from the conventional approach of applying conservative restrictions in security policy to take account of productivity gains from convenience and efficiency at work.

ESTsecurity CEO Chung Sang-won said: "ESTsecurity has protected the information and assets of countless users and led a virtuous cycle in the industry ecosystem so that the security industry can grow," adding, "We are delighted that this award recognizes our efforts to respond actively to a rapidly changing digital environment and to help every user act safely." Setting out plans ahead, he continued: "We will keep helping the security industry grow healthily and will also actively seek out and pursue varied opportunities to contribute to raising Korea's cybersecurity standards."

ESTsecurity, meanwhile, obtained international security certification for its products from ICSA in the United States and Virus Bulletin in the United Kingdom — counted among the world's four leading security certification bodies — in 2009 and 2011. In Korea it obtained Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification in 2019.
